All farms are required to comply with specific guidelines on fields where Silurian bedrock is within 20 feet of the soil surface. SnapPlus V3 checks for these conditions.
No solid or liquid manure applications are allowed where there is less than 2 ft of soil over Silurian bedrock.
Where the bedrock surface is below 2 feet depth, requirements are similar but more stringent for liquid manure applications where there is only 2-5 feet depth versus 5-20 feet. One of the main requirements for both depth categories is injection or immediate incorporation with pretillage.
Pre-tillage means that the soil must be tilled to break up flow channels within the soil before the manure is injected or applied. Liquid manure cannot be surface-applied where there is less than 20 ft to Silurian unless the field is long-term no-till or in an established crop. On fields where Silurian bedrock is present on the maps, the manure application methods available in the Methods dropdown are those that might be allowed under the Silurian rules:
If the field is already in long-term no-till low-disturbance manure injection will also appear on the list.
If the field is not long-term no-till and the tillage system selected for that crop does not have a tillage operation in the season that the manure is applied, then pre-tillage will be assumed impossible and the only manure application method available will be Unincorporated.
If Unincorporated is selected as the Manure method, the program will check that the field and application meet all requirements for unincorporated applications of liquid manure in the Silurian. If any requirement is not met, the program will give a message detailing the problem.
For solid manure, manure must be incorporated by tillage where Silurian bedrock is within 2-5 ft unless the field is long-term no-till or in an established crop.
